The S/V Linden is the largest wooden tall ship in operation in Europe. Accommodating 12 guests, it blends traditional sailing with deep Arctic exploration in a sustainable setting.
The S/V Linden sails today as the largest wooden tall ship in Europe that is neither dry-docked nor a museum, delivering a truly immersive and nostalgic expedition experience in the polar regions. Built in 1993 in Mariehamn as a modern, high-standard interpretation of the original 1920 vessel, this striking three-masted schooner beautifully balances traditional craftsmanship—featuring authentic Åland pinewood and historic larch timber masts—with modern safety regulations and technology. Thanks to her generous size, a 35-ton cargo capacity, and substantial supply tanks, she boasts an exceptional operational range, allowing her to embark on deep Arctic journeys lasting several weeks without the need to curtail itineraries due to food or fuel shortages.
Life on board focuses on a cozy, educational, and highly restorative atmosphere meant to reconnect travelers with pristine natural landscapes. Accommodating a maximum of 12 guests, the ship offers a spacious main saloon complete with a fully stocked bar and an polar library for relaxing after days of exploration. The culinary experience features a high-quality full board service where the onboard chef prepares hearty meals tailored to all dietary requirements. Designed as an active sailing training ship, guests are encouraged to participate alongside the crew in handling the traditional rigging and hoisting the 690-square-meter sail area. Daily shore excursions are supported by robust Zodiac tenders, allowing seamless navigation through icy fjords for coastal hiking and wildlife tracking.
