Con una población de aproximadamente 4.600 habitantes, la ciudad es la sede del municipio de Ilulissat y también el tercer asentamiento más grande de Groenlandia.

Itinerario

@ PXB

Day 1: Monday Flight departure from Iceland / KEF Airport to Ilulissat
Flight departure from Iceland to Ilulissat. A transfer shuttle will be waiting at the airport to drive you to your hotel where you will stay all 4 nights.

3 nights : 3* Hvide Falk Hotel, standard DBL/Twin room with private facilities, including breakfast

Day 2: Tuesday
Breakfast at the hotel.
10:00 Guided city walk: (Duration: 2hrs)
With this culture-historical walk you will get an enhanced understanding of the Greenlandic culture and history, which will give the other experiences in Greenland a new perspective. You will learn about the history of the city, the Greenlandic culture and the modern life 300 km north of the Arctic Circle. Among the highlights along the way are the fishing harbor and the hunters trading post “Brædtet”; the church and the house where the famous explorer Knud Rasmussen was born.

17:00 Iceberg safari: (Duration: 2hrs)
When visiting Ilulissat you should not miss out on a boat tour among the famous icebergs.
During one year, more than 48 km3 of ice flows into the fiord. The result is gigantic icebergs, which can be more than 100 meters on each side and with a height on more than 100 meters above the water surface. These giants strand at the end of the fiord, giving us the opportunity to sail among them.
The icebergs are beautiful in every kind of weather. In sunny weather they glitter in shiny white, the blue shades are best seen when it is cloudy and the midnight sun casts a unique, warm glow on the icebergs.
The icebergs are Ilulissat’s icon and sailing among them is an absolute must-do when visiting Ilulissat. An incredible nature experience.
Coffee and tea will be served on board.

2-course dinner at the hotel

Day 3: Wednesday
14:00 Oqaatsut (Rodebay) settlement / including dinner: (duration 7 hours)
Oqaatsut is a small settlement with approx. 25 inhabitants residing in an area 18 km north from Ilulissat, which is approximately half an hour of sailing.

On the route there is plenty to look at, partly the 70 million year old volcanic Disko Island to the port side (or west) and the mainland on the starboard side outward.

Oqaatsut is an incredibly beautiful village to enjoy and explore. H8 Explorer is a restaurant offering delicious Greenlandic food, and taking time to enjoy your evening meal there will give your sailing trip the authenticity of something even rarer: the silence and grandeur of a small area surrounded by magnificent nature.

Day 4: Thursday
Breakfast at the hotel
09:00 Eqi glacier day tour, including a packed lunch (duration: 6 hrs)

Only few places in Greenland are as beautiful as the Eqi Glacier, which ends in the fiord 80 kilometers north of Ilulissat. By boat it is possible to get very close to the glacier and hopefully experience pieces of ice breaking off. The sounds are enormous and breathtaking. On the way we pass tiny settlements, steep fields, beautiful waterfalls and icebergs in incredible shapes and colors. And that is before two glaciers and the enormous Icesheet is in sight.
If we are lucky we might even spot seals and whales on the way.
We will enjoy a lunch in front of the glacier for 2 hours before heading back to Ilulissat.

Day 5: Friday
Breakfast at the hotel / Luggage stored FOC at the hotel

10:00 Guided hiking tour to the old settlement by the Icefjord Duration: 2 hrs
Beautiful icebergs set the scene for the old settlement
Sermermiut, located one and a half kilometers south of
Ilulissat. For 4000 years, different Inuit cultures lived in this settlement and today you can still see remains that indicate their presence.
Our local guide tell stories about Inuit people’s life and traditions before the Europeans came to Greenland. See turf hut ruins and touch the permafrost with your own hands.
The area is so outstanding that UNESCO named it World Heritage in 2004 and it is estimated that up to 30,000 guests visit Sermermiut every year. For this reason, there is a wooden walkway to protect the area against wear.
A tour to Sermermiut is an absolute must-do when visiting Ilulissat and a memorable way to spend your last morning in the town. After the tour you pass the newly opened Icefjord center, nice option to have lunch and enjoy the exhibition before walking back to the town center / hotel.

Optional: Icefiord center (150 DKK entrance fee)

Afternoon at leisure

23:45 hotel / airport transfer (15 mins)

Day 6 Saturday
Icelandair flight Ilulissat – KEF Airport / Iceland (Flight duration: 3:25 hr hr check in time)
Important: Trips to Greenland are always subject to weather, fog and ice conditions. Therefore the sequence of the day tours and excursions in Greenland is subject to change, or if needed, an alternative excursion will be operated if available. In addition, delays and flight cancellations between Iceland and Greenland can happen. Therefore we strongly recommend you purchase travel insurance in the country of residence to cover any additional travel expenses should your flights be delayed or canceled due to weather. Finally, we recommend not to book any international flights directly after a trip from Greenland. Ideally, stay a minimum of two nights in Iceland after the Greenland trip to avoid the risk of missing an international flight.
