Itinerary

2-day Tour

Welcome to Tromsø! Sleep in and enjoy a relaxed morning to explore the town. Be sure to eat lunch prior to boarding the yacht at 12:30pm to drop off your luggage. Walk over to the Scandic Ishavshotel to be picked up at 13:00 (1pm) for a 30 minute shuttle ride to your 90-minute self-drive husky dog sledding adventure with our trusted partner Arctic Adventure Tours. Hot drinks and homemade cake will be served at the end of the sled tour before your 30 minute shuttle ride back to Tromsø.

If you choose the Sami reindeer option, drop off your luggage at the yacht at 09:30 am, and walk over to the Radisson Blue Hotel entrance at 10:00am to be picked up for a 25-minute shuttle ride to where the reindeer are. The experience includes a 30 minute reindeer sled ride, a traditional Sami meal cooked over the fire & warm drinks, and listen to stories and traditional songs around a fire inside a tipi. You will be shuttled back to the same start location by 14:00 (2pm). Enjoy a leisurely afternoon to explore the town of Tromsø.

Return to the yacht at 17:00 (5pm), settle in to your onboard cabins, and enjoy a traditional Norwegian dinner as you embark on your northern lights and hot tub cruise for the evening.

Departing from Tromsø harbor, the yacht will cruise to an area near where the whales have been sighted and drop anchor or dock for the night.

Wake up to incredible arctic scenery, have coffee on the deck, and fill up on breakfast in the interior saloon. During the day light hours (approx. 09:00-14:00), you will spend the day searching for orca and humpback whales. Increase your chances of seeing the whales by more than 100% compared to short day trips with limited time and irresponsible chasing. World Sea Explorers' has a strict policy for following respectful whale watching guidelines and allows plenty of space for the wild animals to be observed in their natural habitat. When the engine is turned off, it is proven that they are more likely to approach the yacht on their own.

Slowly cruise back to Tromsø while searching for northern lights in the hot tub.

Tour ends at 21:00 (9pm) in Tromsø harbor.

The cruising routes and locations of where you will be anchored or docked overnight are determined by the weather and where the whales are.

The food menu is ever-changing, inspired by Norwegian traditions and local, ethical, fresh and organic ingredients. All warm drinks, snacks and crisp clean arctic water are included.

Onboard accommodations include three twin cabins for two people each, one twin cabin for four people, two toilets and shower rooms, spacious interior dining and lounging areas, a main exterior deck with room to walk, sit outside and relax in the hot tub, and a top exterior viewing deck.

6-day Expedition

You begin your whale watching tour in Tromso at the guest harbor. The crew will welcome you aboard and help you get settled in. We’ll stay docked in Tromso harbour tonight, so enjoy a drink on the top deck before dinner and perhaps even a sea-side stroll.

We will cruise for four days to observe the whales wherever they may be, so the routes, islands and overnight locations are determined by the weather and the whales. Daylight during the winter months is limited, and the whales are typically visible between 09:00-15:00, so the cruising time will generally be during this window.

Watching for whales takes patience. As many of the local species are migratory, we are seeing them as they head south, enjoying their last arctic meals. Minke whales, humpback whales and orcas are the most commonly viewed. Some humpbacks are such regulars, we know their names! Other wild animals include bald eagles, and many other sea birds as well as bearded sea lions, harp seals, common seals, hooded seal, and ringed seals.

You will cruise between Tromsø, Skjervøy and Sørøya keeping an eye out for whale sightings. Each day, if the opportunity presents itself, you can try fishing, the crew will show you how to use the equipment onboard, and you might catch a cod for dinner!

Indulge in local and traditional Norwegian cuisine onboard. The menu is ever-changing, inspired by Norwegian traditions and local, ethical, fresh and organic ingredients. All food, coffee, tea soft drinks, and crisp, clean arctic water are included. We are able to cater to most dietary restrictions or allergies.

Each night we will either drop anchor or dock in a location according to where the whales are. If we are docked, go ashore and explore the island. While at anchor, watch for northern lights in the outdoor hot tub in the evening.

As you look for whales on day four, the yacht will start its return cruise back to Tromsø and will dock in Tromsø for the night. Get a good night's rest as we have an exciting day tomorrow!

No arctic winter expedition is complete without Long Reindeer Sledding, Feeding and Sami Culture experience or a dog sledding adventure. After your full day shore excursion, you’ll return to Stella Oceana for goodbyes and the official end of your whale safari in Tromso, Norway!
