This compact photo tour aboard Vikingfjord is built for photographers who want time to work a scene properly. Guided by Carlos Monforte, the focus is on reading weather, understanding Arctic light, and creating images that capture atmosphere and change�not just a single instant. Early season sub-zero temperatures bring a refined palette of muted blues and soft pinks, ideal for landscapes, ice textures, and wildlife against pristine snow.

Rather than rushing from landing to landing, this expedition embraces a measured pace. We stay with locations as conditions shift: clouds forming, sea haze drifting through fjords, and light lifting across mountain faces. Expect snow-capped peaks rising directly from the sea and wildlife emerging after the polar winter, including polar bears, walruses, Arctic foxes, and Svalbard reindeer. It is an experience for those who value observation over urgency and seek images grounded in place.

Day 1: Depart
Crossing the shallows of Forlandsundet
We depart Longyearbyen at 4pm, sailing out through Isfjorden and past the striking cliffs of Fuglefjella. As we leave civilisation behind, this first evening offers an introduction to Arctic light: low contrast, soft tones, and subtle shifts in colour as the sun dips toward the horizon.

Day 2: Alkhornet and Poolepynten
Geological transitions and wildlife
At the mouth of Isfjorden, Alkhornet marks a dramatic geological transition to sharp, alpine forms. Snow-covered slopes provide opportunities to work scale. Later, we land at Poolepynten, home to a walrus haul-out, where patience allows for powerful and intimate wildlife images.

Day 3: Searching the ice edge
Textures in motion
We venture toward the ice edge, a constantly shifting environment defined by contrast and atmosphere. This is prime territory for seals, seabirds, and polar bears. Carlos works closely with guests to anticipate conditions and refine compositions in this dynamic setting.

Day 4-7: Northern and Western Spitsbergen
Glaciers, history, and Zodiac cruising
We explore Sallyhamna and its 17th-century cultural remains. In Magdalenefjorden, we combine dramatic mountain scenery with historic sites. After visiting the trappers� hut at Camp Zoe, we enjoy a Zodiac cruise along Lillieh��kbreen to capture calving ice before returning south through Isfjorden.

Day 8: Return
Disembark in Longyearbyen
We disembark in Longyearbyen at 9am, concluding the expedition with a deeper understanding of Arctic light, weather, and the value of patience in photographic storytelling.
