The highlight of this trip is the total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026, with the ship positioned in Greenland's waters for the best viewing location. The journey is enhanced by the presence of an astrophysicist, Paul Sutter. The itinerary is highly dependent on ice and weather conditions, and wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.
This 14-day odyssey is a unique opportunity to witness a total solar eclipse over the Arctic, from a prime location in the waters of Greenland. The journey begins in Svalbard, a High Arctic wilderness with immense glaciers and wildlife. From there, you'll cross the Greenland Sea, remaining vigilant for sightings of marine mammals. This is expedition cruising at its most authentic, with an experienced captain and expedition leader continually adjusting the itinerary to take advantage of every opportunity to experience excellent wildlife viewing and incredible scenery.
East Greenland offers some of the Arctic’s most impressive scenery, with deep fjords and narrow channels flanked by ice-clad peaks. On shore, fields of multicolored tundra are home to musk oxen and Arctic hare, and ancient Thule archaeological sites can be found. The voyage is further enriched by astrophysicist Paul Sutter, who will enhance your eclipse experience with expert insights. After this amazing time in East Greenland, you will cross the Denmark Strait toward Iceland, crossing the Arctic Circle, before disembarking in the charming capital of Reykjavík.
