Duration: 14 days / 13 nights on board
Starts: Longyearbyen, Svalbard
Ends: Longyearbyen, Svalbard
Language: English speaking voyage
This is an ambitious, in-depth expedition to circumnavigate Svalbard. The itinerary is highly dependent on ice and weather conditions, and encounters with wildlife cannot be guaranteed. New regulations require a minimum distance of 300 meters from polar bears, with an increase to 500 meters from March 1 to June 30.
This voyage offers a comprehensive view of the Arctic, with the ambitious goal of circumnavigating the entire Svalbard archipelago. Your journey will take you to the rarely-visited northeastern parts of the archipelago, including Kvitøya (White Island), an island famous for its polar bears and the final resting place of a historic balloon expedition. You'll explore a landscape of deep fjords flanked by serrated mountain ranges and immense tidewater glaciers calving icebergs into turquoise waters, a truly pristine part of nature protected by a system of national parks.
The expedition is an unparalleled opportunity to encounter the Arctic's many faces. The enormous Northwest Svalbard Nature Reserve, the massive Austfonna ice cap, and the rugged northwestern parts of Spitsbergen promise endless opportunities for discovery. You can expect to encounter significant sea ice concentrations and a prodigious number of seabirds. Historically, this icy wilderness has proven a good location for spotting polar bears, walruses, Arctic foxes, and reindeer. Every day offers something new and exciting, ensuring you will not miss a single opportunity to witness incredible polar scenery and walk in the footsteps of historic expeditions.
