This is an ambitious, in-depth expedition to circumnavigate Svalbard. The itinerary is highly dependent on ice and weather conditions, and encounters with wildlife cannot be guaranteed. New regulations require a minimum distance of 300 meters from polar bears, with an increase to 500 meters from March 1 to June 30.

This voyage offers a comprehensive view of the Arctic, with the ambitious goal of circumnavigating the entire Svalbard archipelago. Your journey will take you to the rarely-visited northeastern parts of the archipelago, including Kvitøya (White Island), an island famous for its polar bears and the final resting place of a historic balloon expedition. You'll explore a landscape of deep fjords flanked by serrated mountain ranges and immense tidewater glaciers calving icebergs into turquoise waters, a truly pristine part of nature protected by a system of national parks.

The expedition is an unparalleled opportunity to encounter the Arctic's many faces. The enormous Northwest Svalbard Nature Reserve, the massive Austfonna ice cap, and the rugged northwestern parts of Spitsbergen promise endless opportunities for discovery. You can expect to encounter significant sea ice concentrations and a prodigious number of seabirds. Historically, this icy wilderness has proven a good location for spotting polar bears, walruses, Arctic foxes, and reindeer. Day 1: Arrival in Longyearbyen, Svalbard
The capital of Svalbard
Arrive in Longyearbyen and be transferred to your hotel. You are free to explore the town center, including the Svalbard Museum. We recommend enjoying dinner at one of the many restaurants. You will experience 24-hour daylight for the entire trip.

Day 2: Welcome Aboard!
Embarkation and sailing
Enjoy a free morning to explore Longyearbyen. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the pier to embark aboard the M/V Sea Spirit. After getting underway, a full schedule of events begins with informative briefings. Admire the scenery as you pass through the wildlife-rich waters of Isfjorden.

Day 3-5: Arctic adventures begin

The goal is to circumnavigate Svalbard. The first destination is the Northwest Spitsbergen National Park, known for its deep fjords, serrated mountains, and immense tidewater glaciers. Here you can encounter beluga whales and Arctic seals. You may visit Ny Ålesund, a former mining town that is now an international research community.

Day 6: The Polar Ice Edge is straight ahead!

Navigate along the ice edge towards Nordaustlandet and further east towards Kvitøya (White Island). This is a corner of Svalbard full of stunning scenery, wildlife, and rich history. The route is heavily dependent on the weather.

Day 7-8: Following the trails of great Arctic explorers
Discovering Kvitøya
On this part of the journey, you will attempt to go to the eastern and northern regions of the Svalbard Archipelago, which are infrequently visited. You will experience the isolation and beautiful remoteness of Svalbard’s Arctic wilderness. Kvitøya is one of the most rarely visited islands and may provide an opportunity to observe polar bears in their natural habitat.

Day 9-10: Great wonders of the Arctic world
Ice cliffs and polar deserts
Expect to encounter significant sea ice concentrations in the enormous Northwest Svalbard Nature Reserve. Witness the massive Austfonna ice cap and the Bråsvellbreen ice cliff, one of the great wonders of the Arctic. This region is a good location for spotting polar bears and walruses, despite the limited vegetation.

Day 11: The picture-perfect nature of Svalbard

Explore the pristine wilderness of the Southeast Svalbard Nature Reserve, home to the territory’s densest population of Svalbard reindeer. You will visit Bellsund, a picturesque bay with the remains of historical whaling operations, and see wildflowers at their peak.Day 12 -13: Back to the West Coast
