This is an expedition on a hybrid electric polar exploration ship, Le Commandant Charcot. The sailing program, outings, activities, and wildlife observations are not guaranteed and are subject to weather and ice conditions. The navigation is mainly in the fjords and will be determined by the type of ice encountered. The journey includes the presence of a guest chef, Alastair McLeod, for a unique culinary experience.

PONANT invites you to experience the exceptional on a 17-day cruise discovering the east coast of Greenland and following the ice to the majestic lands of Spitsbergen. Following in the footsteps of great explorers and Norwegian trappers, you will plunge into the history of these remote territories during a period of extreme conditions when the ice still envelops the wild and deserted landscape. Le Commandant Charcot, a hybrid electric polar exploration ship, you will reach Greenland and the Scoresby Sound region, navigating in the wake of Jean-Baptiste Charcot, who was deeply connected to the Inuit land.

You will then sail towards the Northeast Greenland National Park, the largest national park in the world and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Here, trappers' cabins are lost in the immensity of the magically coloured alpine landscapes and impressive glaciers. You may be lucky enough to spot polar bears and musk oxen that live in these distant lands. Following the ice, you will cross the Greenland Sea to reach Nordvest-Spitsbergen National Park, a kingdom of contrasts where former whalers have given way to various species of cetaceans and walruses.

Day 1: Reykjavík
Embarkation and departure
Embarkation in Reykjavík from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The ship departs at 6:00 PM. You can explore the city's highlights, such as the Hallgrímskirkja church and the Blue Lagoon thermal lagoons.

Day 2: At Sea aboard Le Commandant Charcot
Sailing into the heart of the ice
Spend an exceptional day sailing aboard

Le Commandant Charcot, a luxury polar exploration vessel. The ship is fitted with scientific equipment, and you can take advantage of the on-board lectures to learn more about the poles.

Days 3: Exploration of Ittoqqortoormiit Region
Immersing in an ancestral way of life
You will have the rare opportunity of immersing yourself in the isolated Ittoqqortoormiit region on the East coast of Greenland. This is home to the last hunters of the polar region, whose ancestral way of life you will encounter.

Days 4-6: Scoresby Sound
Exploring the largest fjord system in the world
Discover Scoresby Sound, the largest and deepest fjord system in the world. This wild and desert region offers untouched panoramas of infinite beauty, with high snow-capped peaks and icebergs immersed in clear, blue-tinged waters.

Day 7: Navigating through the sea ice
Sailing to the heart of the ice floe
Enjoy the unique experience of sailing into the heart of the ice floe. Your ship will navigate along naturally open channels, offering you the chance to see a particular kind of fauna totally dependent on the ice floe.

Days 8-11: Exploration of Northeast Greenland National Park

With a craggy coastline formed by gigantic fjords and magnificent alpine mountains, the shores of North-East Greenland are home to the largest national park in the world. This particularly isolated region is renowned for its pristine nature and rich wildlife.

Days 12-13: Navigating through the sea ice
Another chance to sail in the ice floe
Enjoy another opportunity to sail to the heart of the ice floe, this vast expanse of virgin, immaculate ice. The landscapes are constantly changing, and your ship will sail along naturally open channels, offering you the chance to experience magic maritime moments.

Day 14: North-West Region of Spitsbergen
A kingdom of contrasts and natural marvels
Arrive in northwest Spitsbergen, a kingdom of contrasts and natural marvels. Get as close as possible to the unique fauna, including whales, seals, walruses, and polar bears.

Day 15: Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen
The northernmost territorial capital
Arrive in Longyearbyen, the capital of the Norwegian Svalbard archipelago. The landscapes of this mining town are breathtaking, with glaciers and mountains that make you feel like you're in unexplored territory.

Day 16: At Sea aboard Le Commandant Charcot
A final day of scientific discovery
Spend a final day at sea aboard

Le Commandant Charcot, fitted with oceanographic and scientific equipment. Take advantage of the on-board lectures and opportunities for discussion with specialists to learn more about the poles and participate in furthering scientific research.

Disembarkation in "The Paris of the North"
Arrive in Tromso in the early morning and disembark at 8:00 AM. Tromso is a secluded town in the Arctic circle, known as "The Paris of the north" due to its extensive neoclassical architectural heritage and a stunning Arctic cathedral.
