This is an expedition on a hybrid electric polar exploration ship, Le Commandant Charcot. The sailing program, outings, activities, and wildlife observations are not guaranteed and are subject to weather and ice conditions. The navigation is mainly in the fjords and will be determined by the type of ice encountered. The journey includes the presence of a guest chef, Alastair McLeod, for a unique culinary experience.
PONANT invites you to experience the exceptional on a 17-day cruise discovering the east coast of Greenland and following the ice to the majestic lands of Spitsbergen. Following in the footsteps of great explorers and Norwegian trappers, you will plunge into the history of these remote territories during a period of extreme conditions when the ice still envelops the wild and deserted landscape. Aboard
Le Commandant Charcot, a hybrid electric polar exploration ship, you will reach Greenland and the Scoresby Sound region, navigating in the wake of Jean-Baptiste Charcot, who was deeply connected to the Inuit land.
You will then sail towards the Northeast Greenland National Park, the largest national park in the world and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Here, trappers' cabins are lost in the immensity of the magically coloured alpine landscapes and impressive glaciers. You may be lucky enough to spot polar bears and musk oxen that live in these distant lands. Following the ice, you will cross the Greenland Sea to reach Nordvest-Spitsbergen National Park, a kingdom of contrasts where former whalers have given way to various species of cetaceans and walruses.
