During July and August, the subarctic tundra transforms with blooming wildflowers and migratory birds, providing a dramatic contrast against the pristine Churchill River. Guided by an expert Photo Specialist, the tour focuses on capturing beluga whales in their estuary and potentially coastal polar bears.

The itinerary is designed with a photography-first approach, featuring specialized workshops on astrophotography and subarctic wildlife. Participants will explore the Churchill Wildlife Management Area via Tundra Buggy® and embark on multiple Zodiac excursions to photograph the thousands of belugas that migrate to the river mouth. Cultural immersion is also key, with visits to the Prince of Wales Fort National Historic Site and the Itsanitaq Museum, which houses one of Canada's finest Inuit collections.

Day 1: Arrival in Winnipeg
Reception and Specialist Welcome
Arrive in Winnipeg and check into your hotel. Attend a welcome reception hosted by a Frontiers North Photo Specialist Guide. Overnight at a Winnipeg hotel.

Day 2: Flight to Churchill and Workshop Start
Photography Tour and Cultural Introduction
Take an early morning flight to Churchill to begin your adventure. Participate in a photography tour of the town and area, including the Polar Bear Holding Facility. Attend your first Photography Workshop and a cultural presentation from a local Indigenous resident. Overnight at a Churchill hotel.

Day 3: Forts, Hikes, and Whales
Prince of Wales Fort and Churchill River Exploration
Tour the Rocket Range and enjoy a coastal hike. Discover hundreds of beluga whales in the mouth of the Churchill River on a boat tour and take a guided interpretive walk of the Prince of Wales Fort National Historic Site. End the day with a Sunset Photography Drive. Overnight at a Churchill hotel.

Day 4: Zodiacs and Astrophotography
Estuary Viewing and Nighttime Sessions
Embark on a guided Zodiac excursion into the beluga whale estuary for close-up photo opportunities. Visit the Polar Bears International House to learn about research efforts. In the evening, participate in an Astrophotography Workshop and a nighttime town photography tour. Overnight at a Churchill hotel.

Day 5: Dogs and Coastal Wildlife
Dog Carting and Marine Observation
Participate in a dog carting and interpretive program to learn about Métis culture and dog sledding history. Visit the Itsanitaq Museum to view historical Inuit collections. Embark on a second beluga Zodiac tour with a sharp lookout for possible coastal polar bears. Overnight at a Churchill hotel.

Day 6: Tundra Buggy® Adventure and Return
Wildlife Search in the CWMA
Spend a full day exploring the Churchill Wildlife Management Area on a Tundra Buggy® searching for subarctic wildlife. In the evening, take the flight back to Winnipeg and check into your hotel.
