Embark on an epic 19-day journey from the port of Akureyri, Iceland, into the mazy fjords of Greenland and the beautiful world of the pack ice as you head north. This combination cruise then takes you through the Svalbard Archipelago, exploring glaciers, mountains, and tundra, before crossing the Norwegian Sea and stopping at Bear Island en route to Tromsø. The voyage is an ideal way to discover the drama and beauty of life across the Arctic Ocean, immersing you in vast and diverse landscapes.

The expedition is a masterclass in polar exploration, taking you to some of the most remote and historic sites in the Arctic. You’ll sail past colossal icebergs, hike through ancient sedimentary formations, and visit a Thule culture site. You will also have a chance to explore a former mining town in Spitsbergen. Throughout the voyage, you will be on the lookout for iconic wildlife such as whales, seals, musk oxen, and polar bears, offering unparalleled photographic opportunities and a unique, educational experience.

Day 1: On the Iceland road
Journey from Reykjavik and embarkation in Akureyri
Your journey begins with a chartered bus transfer from Reykjavík to Akureyri (optional and must be booked in advance). In the early evening, the ship departs from Akureyri, where you may see whales at the mouth of the fjord. At night, you will cross the Arctic Circle.

Day 2: Sailing to East Greenland
Approaching the first icebergs
While sailing north, you'll likely see seabirds and possibly whales. By evening, the first icebergs will flash into sight as you approach the east Greenland coast near Kap Brewster.

Day 3: Arriving at Earth’s largest fjord
Scoresby Sund and Charcot Havn
You will reach Scoresby Sund, sailing along the glaciated Volquart Boons Kyst. You may enjoy a Zodiac cruise past glacier fronts and visit the basalt columns of Vikingebugt. The day may also include a landing at Charcot Havn for a walk to the Charcot Glacier.

Day 4: Enormous icebergs & Arctic hares
Exploring the fjords and Thule summer houses
Encounter colossal icebergs near Sydkap. Take a long walk from Sydkap to Nordøstbugt, seeing whale vertebrae and the remains of Thule summer houses along the shore.

Day 5: Landfall at Ittoqqortoormiit
Meeting the locals of Scoresby Sund
The morning stop is at Ittoqqortoormiit, the only settlement in Scoresby Sund. You can buy stamps at the post office or stroll around to see the sled dogs. In the afternoon, you will sail north into Kong Oscar Fjord.

Day 6: Alpefjord’s lofty peaks
A definitive Greenland adventure
Enter Segelsällskapets Fjord, with the striped slopes of the Berzelius Mountains. A hike on the south shore offers a chance to see musk oxen. Alternatively, the ship may venture into Alpefjord for a Zodiac cruise around Gully Glacier.

Day 7: The islands of Antarctic Sound
Geology and history at Teufelschloss
Pass by the islands of Ruth, Maria, and Ella. Arrive at Teufelschloss (Devil’s Castle), a mountain with impressive layered geology. In the afternoon, you will sail through the majestic Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord and Mackenzie Bugt.

Day 8: Remains of Thule Culture at Eskimonaes
A glimpse into native life
You will hope to land at Eskimonaes on the southern shore of Clavering Ø, a place where a small group of Thule people were met in 1823. The remains of their existence can still be found here.

Day 9: Islands with polar history
Following in the footsteps of early expeditions
Sail by a choice of islands, including Sabine Ø and Bass Rock, where the first polar expeditions set foot on land. Cabins built by the Baldwin-Ziegler Polar Expedition were constructed here.

Day 10: Store Koldewey
High Arctic climate regime
You will arrive at Store Koldewey, an island named by the second German Polar Expedition. You will try to land on historical Kap Alf Trolle or Kap Ahrend. The landscape is lower and more rounded here.

Day 11: Germania Land
Musk oxen and a lonely wolf
Today you could land at Thoms Thomsen Naes or another site in Germania Land, an area with musk oxen and sometimes a lonely wolf. The landing sites depend on ice and weather conditions.

Day 12: Through or around the sea ice
A landscape of constant change
While sailing eastward through the jagged edge of the Northeast Greenland sea ice, you will keep watch for whales, seals, polar bears, and migrating seabirds. This is a landscape of constant change and a real frontier.

Day 13: Approaching Spitsbergen
Walruses and the Gulf Stream
At open sea now, you will sail eastward toward Spitsbergen. If time allows, you may land at the walrus haul-out at Poolepynten.

Day 14: The start of an adventure
Embarkation in Longyearbyen
You will touch down in Longyearbyen, the administrative center of Spitsbergen. In the early evening, the ship sails out of Isfjorden, where you might spot the first minke whale of the voyage.

Day 15: Spectacular Hornsund
Cruising southern Spitsbergen
You will start the day by quietly cruising the side fjords of the spectacular Hornsund area. Here you can enjoy the scenery of towering mountain peaks and 14 magnificent glaciers. There is a chance of encountering seals and polar bears.

Day 16: Isolated Bear Island
Cliff faces and whaling history
Arrive at the southeastern end of Bear Island, an excellent place for viewing the high cliff faces and "Perleporten." The opportunity to land and visit the remains of a whaling station from the previous century should present itself.

Day 17 - 18: Toward Norway, Aurora Borealis
Whale watching and the Northern Lights
Sailing southward, you are likely to see whales in the surrounding sea. When night falls, you have a good chance to see the Aurora Borealis in the skies above.

Day 19: Arrive in Tromsø (Norway)
The gate to the Arctic
Arrive in Tromsø, also known as the gate to the Arctic. Tromsø has been an important town from where Arctic expeditions set out for centuries.

All meals throughout the voyage aboard the ship including snacks, coffee and tea.
All shore excursions and activities throughout the voyage by Zodiac.
Program of lectures by noted naturalists and leadership by experienced expedition staff.
Free use of rubber boots and snowshoes.
All miscellaneous service taxes and port charges throughout the programme.
AECO fees and governmental taxes.
Transfers and baggage handling (T) between the meeting point in Reykjavik (Harpa) and the ship in Akureyri, if booked and paid for in advance.

Any airfare, whether on scheduled or charter flights.
Pre- and post- land arrangements.
Passport and visa expenses.
Government arrival and departure taxes.
Meals ashore.
Baggage, cancellation and personal insurance (which is strongly recommended).
Excess baggage charges and all items of a personal nature such as laundry, bar, beverage charges and telecommunication charges.
The customary gratuity at the end of the voyages for stewards and other service personnel aboard (guidelines will be provided).
