Included

This expedition offers a deep immersion into the wilderness of Svalbard, operating at two magical times of the year. In late June, the midnight sun allows for exploration of the archipelago's eastern parts as ice recedes, revealing slopes decorated with purple saxifrage. In late August, autumn brings spectacular sunsets and warm light ideal for photography, while the tundra is at its most snow-free and prominent. Aboard the M/S Sjøveien, an intimate and refurbished ship, travelers enjoy comforts like a deck hot tub and access to seldom-visited sites.

The journey focuses on active exploration through daily Zodiac cruises and shore landings. Highlights include visits to the historic scientific settlement of Ny-Ålesund, observing the colossal ice walls of the Bråsvellbreen glacier, and navigating the Hinlopen Strait, home to thousands of seabirds at Alkefjellet. The chance to encounter polar bears, walruses, Arctic foxes, and whales, combined with the knowledge of expert guides, makes this voyage one of the most authentic and personal expedition experiences available in the Arctic.

Highlights:

Intimate expedition on a ship for only 12 passengers with expert guides.
Opportunity to circumnavigate Svalbard or explore the remote east depending on ice.
Sightings of iconic wildlife: polar bears, walruses, Arctic foxes, and Svalbard reindeer.
Visit to Alkefjellet, an impressive basalt cliff with thousands of birds.
Cruising in front of majestic glaciers like Monaco, 14th of July, and Bråsvellbreen.
Hot tub on deck to relax under the Arctic light.

NOTE: Embracing the unexpected is part of the legacy—and excitement—of expedition travel. When traveling in extremely remote regions, your expedition staff must allow the sea, the ice and the weather to guide route and itinerary details. This itinerary is a tentative outline of what you’ll experience on this voyage; please be aware that no specific itinerary can be guaranteed.
