You'll navigate through the pack ice of the Denmark Strait and the Greenland Sea, stopping by the remote and stark volcanic island of Jan Mayen on your way to Spitsbergen. This adventure is designed to immerse you in a world of ice and unspoiled nature, with a constant focus on iconic Arctic wildlife.

The itinerary allows you to explore the rugged coastlines and glaciers of Iceland, the remote pack ice north of the country, and eventually delve into the pack ice of the Greenland Sea. You'll then have the unique opportunity to explore the natural beauty of Spitsbergen, including the Seven Islands, where you might reach 80° north and get a chance to spot polar bears and other wildlife that inhabits this region. The experience is enriched with lectures by noted naturalists and the leadership of an experienced expedition staff, ensuring a profound and memorable polar adventure.

Day 1: The start of an Arctic adventure
Embarkation in Keflavik
In the late afternoon, you will board m/v Hondius in the port of Keflavik. After sailing north into Faxaflói bay, you will proceed to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula while looking for whales in this large bay.

Days 2-7: Ice caps and volcanoes
Exploring the magic of Iceland
Land in Breidavik at Arnarstapi, with the Snaefellsjökull glacier in the background. Walk along cliffs with seabirds to Hellnar. Sail in Breidafjordur, visiting the island of Flatey and the Klofningur islet. You will also visit Aedey, a farm for eider ducks, and Látrabjarg, with its seabird colonies. You will look for whales as you pass the Arctic Circle.

Day 8: Journey ends in Akureyri
Disembarkation in Akureyri
Your journey will end with disembarkation in Akureyri. Optional bus transfers can be arranged in advance to Reykjavík (a six-hour drive).

Day 9: The start of an adventure

In the late afternoon, you board m/v Hondius in the port city of Akureyri. You will sail north through Eyafjordur, one of the longest fjords in Iceland, where you may see your first whales.

Days 10-14: At the Arctic Circle
From Jan Mayen to Spitsbergen
You will land on the small island of Grimsey, which straddles the Arctic Circle. Sail towards the isolated Jan Mayen, a volcanic island with Mt. Beerenberg. With permission, you can visit the weather station and the remains of a whaling station. Sail north along the edge of the sea ice in search of bowhead whales, harp seals, polar bears, and seabirds before changing direction toward West Spitsbergen.

Days 15-21: Spitsbergen’s natural beauty, wildlife, and pack-ice
North Spitsbergen’s natural beauty and pack-ice
This voyage will take you into the pack ice and along the remote shorelines of north Spitsbergen. Places you might visit include Raudfjord, the Monaco Glacier, and Hinlopen Strait, home to bearded seals, ringed seals, and polar bears. You may reach 80° north in the Seven Islands, just 870 km from the North Pole, a prime area for polar bears. On the way back, you can look for fin whales and minke whales. Landings might take place at Alkhornet, a cliffside crucial for nesting birds and reindeer grazing.

Day 22: There and back again
Disembarkation in Longyearbyen
The vessel arrives back in Longyearbyen in the early morning, and bus transportation to the airport will be provided.
