The vessel, RMS ST HELENA, is equipped with a full science lab and features two Jacuzzis and a sauna. The itinerary is a general guideline, and sites cannot be guaranteed.

This expedition aims to go deeper into the Peninsula than most, targeting remote sites such as Marguerite Bay, Stonington Island (Base E), and Detaille Island (Base W). The trip is about connecting with the places where early explorers mapped the unknown and shaped modern science, offering a poignant glimpse into life during the heroic age of mid-century exploration.

Aboard the RMS ST HELENA, you will enjoy a perfect blend of comfort and exploration, with a full science lab and the chance to join the ship’s open bridge policy. Highlights include traversing the breathtaking Gullet, a narrow, ice-filled channel, and sailing the Lemaire Channel ("Kodak Gap"). Daily activities include kayaking, snowshoeing, and Zodiac cruises, ensuring close encounters with abundant wildlife. Day 1: Ushuaia, Argentina
Historical walk and embarkation
Arrive in Ushuaia. After lunch, join your team for a short historical walking tour of the town before boarding the expedition vessel. Once on board, enjoy a welcome briefing and dinner as you begin your journey down the Beagle Channel.

Days 2-3: Crossing the Drake Passage
Expert-led presentations and safety briefings
Cross the legendary Drake Passage, a vast stretch of open ocean that marks the Antarctic Convergence. Join expert-led presentations covering early British expeditions, glaciology, and Antarctic wildlife. Keep watch for albatrosses riding the winds, and attend safety and biosecurity briefings.

Day 4: Antarctic Circle & Crystal Sound
Crossing 66°33′ South and exploring a well-preserved base
Set your sights on crossing the Antarctic Circle. Navigate the icy expanse of Crystal Sound, aiming to land at Detaille Island, home to the long-abandoned Base W—a British research station that remains remarkably well preserved.

Day 5: Marguerite Bay & Adelaide Island (Rothera Region)
Remote landscapes and modern polar science
Set your course for the remote and seldom-visited Marguerite Bay. If conditions allow, you may cruise in the vicinity of Rothera Research Station, the modern-day hub of the British Antarctic Survey.

Day 6: Pourquoi Pas Island & Southern Channels
Traversing The Gullet
Set out to traverse the breathtaking Gullet, a narrow, ice-filled channel that separates Adelaide Island from the mainland. Weather permitting, you may navigate this icy maze by Zodiac, or make a landing on Pourquoi Pas Island, once a refuge for early explorers.

Day 7: Penola Strait & Vernadsky Research Base
Birthplace of ozone research and the southernmost bar
Journey northward along the coast, passing through the magnificent Penola Strait. You will pause at Vernadsky Station (formerly British Faraday Station), renowned as the birthplace of groundbreaking ozone layer research. There may be an opportunity to visit the iconic southernmost bar on Earth.

Day 8: Lemaire Channel & Pleneau Island
The "Kodak Gap" and grounded icebergs
Set your sights on the Lemaire Channel—known as the "Kodak Gap". At Pleneau Island, you’ll visit vibrant penguin colonies and navigate among grounded icebergs. Keep an eye out for leopard seals or humpback whales feeding just offshore.

Days 9-10: Antarctic Peninsula Highlights
Final exploration and setting foot on the continent
Two final days of immersive exploration. There is potential for a landing at Neko Harbour—an ideal location to set foot on the Antarctic continent itself. Your expedition team will maximize your time on the Peninsula before turning north.

Days 11-12: Crossing the Drake Passage (Northbound)
Reflection and celebratory dinner
Relive your adventures as you cross the Drake Passage. Take part in final lectures or workshops, and enjoy a celebratory dinner with your fellow travellers.

Day 13: Return to Ushuaia
Disembarkation
Arrive back in Ushuaia in the early morning. After breakfast, disembark with cherished memories of an epic Antarctic expedition.
