This 18-day expedition is a true adventure experience combining the rugged Antarctic Peninsula with the beauty of South Georgia. The journey is a Reverse Itinerary, starting with a flight over the Drake Passage to King George Island, maximizing time for exploration before sailing north. You will follow in the footsteps of famous Antarctic explorers, like Ernest Shackleton, and learn about their daring southerly adventures. Exploration includes the Western Antarctic Peninsula, sailing through the Gerlache Strait, and potentially venturing into the Antarctic Sound.

The core of the voyage is spent in South Georgia, an island of majestic mountains, massive glaciers, and deep fjords. You will visit the former whaling outpost of Grytviken and witness staggering concentrations of wildlife, including 150,000 king penguins at St. Andrew's Bay. The expedition concludes by sailing along the Beagle Channel to Ushuaia. Each day, you disembark with expert polar guides, having time to either hike, snowshoe, or kayak in bays nearby.

Day 1: Start of the air-cruise
Briefing, Explorers House, and transfer to hotel
Antarctica21 staff members welcome you in Punta Arenas, Chile, before 2 PM. Transfer to your hotel, visit Explorers House, and attend a mandatory briefing with essential guidelines for Antarctic visitors. At Explorers House, enjoy local gastronomy as you meet your fellow adventurers.

Day 2: Scheduled flight to Antarctica
Fly to King George Island and embarkation
A smooth two-hour flight takes you from Punta Arenas to King George Island. Your adventure begins as you exit the airplane, and a short vehicle transfer takes you to the shore of Fildes Bay where a Zodiac takes you to your boutique expedition vessel.

Days 3-6: Exploring Antarctica
Sailing among ice-filled fjords and spectacular icebergsSpend four days exploring Antarctica, cruising between the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. Each day, disembark by Zodiac to explore the landscape with expert polar guides. Sites may include the Gerlache Strait, the Penola Strait, and the Antarctic Sound.

Day 7: Elephant Island sailing north
Sailing past Shackleton's refuge
The ship hopes to stop at Elephant Island, where the crew of Shackleton's Endurance found refuge. While stormy conditions rarely allow a shore landing, you will see the island from the ship.

Day 8-9: Sailing to South Georgia
Presentations and preparations
Sail northward toward South Georgia. Our historian and naturalist guides offer a series of presentations, and there is time to socialize in the ship's lounge while keeping an eye out for the region's abundant birdlife.

Day 10-13: Exploring South Georgia
Wildlife, glaciers, and Shackleton's grave
Spend four days exploring South Georgia. Visit the former whaling outpost of Grytviken, where you may pay your respects at the grave of Ernest Shackleton. Be overwhelmed by the sight of 150,000 king penguins at St. Andrew's Bay. Visits are also planned at Cooper Island, Fortuna Bay, Salisbury Plains, Prion Island, and Elsehul Bay.

Day 14-16: Sailing towards South America

As the ship heads to South America, the program of presentations continues. Use this time to enhance your understanding of the region and its history.

Day 17: At sea and Beagle Channel
Sailing along the Beagle Channel to Ushuaia
Approach the South American continent and sail along the Beagle Channel. Take in the beauty of Tierra del Fuego and Navarino Island as you make your way to Ushuaia.

Day 18: Ushuaia, Argentina
Arrival and end of the air-cruise
Arrival to Ushuaia, where your journey ends.
