Included

The 14-day Antarctica by Helicopter: Crossing the Circle & the Peninsula is a unique voyage that blends the ultimate polar achievement with unparalleled aerial exploration. Achieving the polar milestone of crossing the Antarctic Circle at 66°30′ is made possible on this journey, which includes multiple helicopter opportunities—at least two heli-flightseeing excursions and one exclusive heli-landing—in the trip's cost. You will soar above the ice-covered 7th Continent, gaining extraordinary perspectives of polar landscapes previously seen only by a few fearless explorers.

The exploration focuses on the southern heart of the Antarctic Peninsula: Crystal Sound and Marguerite Bay, regions known for their massive, steep coastal mountains and stunning geological features. The itinerary is designed for maximum flexibility to adapt to weather, allowing for both helicopter-supported adventures and classic Zodiac excursions for intimate marine and land-based experiences. Daily activities include visiting penguin rookeries, scouting for whales (humpback, minke, fin, and killer whales), and searching for seals (leopard, crabeater, Weddell). You will be among the select few to step onto remote mountains and glaciers, all while learning from polar experts during an enhanced onboard education program.

Day 1: Arrive in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Arrival and Transfer to Pre-Expedition Hotel
Upon arriving in this splendid city, known for its vibrant Argentinian culture, you will independently transfer to your pre-expedition hotel, included in your Charter Flight and Hotel Package.

Day 2: Fly to Ushuaia and Embark
Charter Flight, City Exploration, and Beagle Channel Sailing
After an early breakfast, the group transfers to the airport for the private charter flight to Ushuaia. Upon arrival, transfer to a central downtown location for free time to explore the quaint port town. Later, transfer to the ship for late afternoon embarkation. Sail along the historic Beagle Channel, departing with anticipation for the remote Antarctic wilderness.

Day 3: Crossing the Drake: A Polar Rite of Passage
At Sea: Scenery and Wildlife Spotting
Crossing the legendary 800-km Drake Passage is a must-do. Stand on the deck of Ultramarine and gaze at the dramatic seascapes. Be on the lookout for dolphins, whales, and seabirds, especially albatrosses, petrels, and skuas. Keep your eyes peeled for your first glimpse of towering icebergs as the ship approaches the Antarctic Peninsula.

Day 4: At Sea with Polar Experts
Antarctic Convergence and Enhanced Education
As we continue crossing the Drake Passage, we experience the Antarctic Convergence. Your days at sea are filled with presentations led by your Expedition Team on photography, wildlife, glaciology, and history. Spend time on deck looking for wildlife or socializing with shipmates.

Days 5–6: South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula
Zodiac Excursions and Helicopter-Supported Adventures
Upon reaching the Antarctic Peninsula, you will experience a sense of reverence and awe in this untouched land. Each day involves Zodiac excursions to explore local bays, channels, and landing sites. We will visit penguin rookeries (Chinstrap, Adélie, Gentoo), scout for whales (Humpback, Minke), and search for seal species (Leopard, Crabeater, Weddell). These days are also ideal for experiencing Ultramarine’s exclusive helicopter-supported adventures (flightseeing and potentially landing). Daily activities include spotting wildlife and being mesmerized by the astounding beauty of Antarctica.

Days 7–9: Explore the Antarctic Circle and the Southern Peninsula by water, land, and air
Crossing the Milestone and Exploring Crystal Sound & Marguerite Bay
This phase showcases the flexibility of the expedition, maximizing helicopter opportunities while ensuring optimal Antarctic experience during non-flying weather. We aim to cross the Antarctic Circle (66°30′ South), marking an impressive achievement, celebrated with a toast. The focus shifts to Crystal Sound and Marguerite Bay. In Crystal Sound, known for its massive steep mountains, we hope to visit Detaille Island (historical hut, Adélie penguin colony) and, weather-permitting, fly into the mountains. We also hope to Zodiac cruise among colossal icebergs. Continuing south to Marguerite Bay, we search for whales (fin whales, southern rights) and seals. The area is historically rich, with 60-million-year-old fossils found on islands like The Naze. We may transit The Gullet, a channel known for pulsing currents and ice.

Days 10–11: Northbound Along the Peninsula
Continued Excursions and Final Wildlife Spotting
As you head north, Zodiac excursions will occupy your days. Your Expedition Team will continue looking out for species of seabirds, seals (leopard, crabeater, Weddell), and whales that may have eluded you. By now, terms like ‘bergy bits’ and ‘pancake ice’ will be part of your vocabulary, and your knowledge of penguin species will be solid.

Days 12–13: Crossing the Drake Passage
Final Polar Presentations and Reflection
Recross the Drake Passage with a storehouse of memories, especially those from soaring in a helicopter over Antarctica. Your Expedition Team will offer final presentations, including the guest-favorite end-of-voyage photo-and-video compilation. Take advantage of Ultramarine’s amenities, especially Tundra Spa & Sauna, on these final days.

Day 14: Disembark in Ushuaia and Fly to Buenos Aires
Morning Disembarkation and Return Charter Flight
You will arrive in Ushuaia in the morning and disembark after breakfast. Your Charter Flight and Hotel Package includes your transfer to the airport for the return group charter flight to Buenos Aires, concluding your adventure.

When traveling in extremely remote regions, your expedition staff must allow the sea, the ice and the weather to guide route and itinerary details.
