With its elegant design, well-thought-out spaces, and intimate atmosphere, it feels like a floating 5-star hotel in one of the most remote environments on the planet.
The SH Minerva is a modern expedition vessel that perfectly combines high-end boutique comfort with a true polar experience.

Cabin and Comfort
I had the opportunity to stay in a balcony cabin on Deck 5, an experience I truly enjoyed. The balcony became my daily ritual: that classic "morning coffee overlooking the sea" was an essential part of the trip, especially during the return leg crossing the famous "Drake Lake," which was the perfect close to an unforgettable experience.
The beds are extremely comfortable and the soundproofing on the cabin is very good; of course, the natural sounds of the ship are present, but nothing that affects your rest.
The minibar is always well-stocked, as are the Illy coffee capsules in the cabin, which adds significantly to the daily comfort.
Gastronomy
The gastronomic quality on board is truly exceptional, to the point that you sincerely miss it once the trip ends. During the day, both breakfast and lunch surprise you with the variety of the buffets and the inclusion of original themed proposals. Furthermore, the kitchen team's commitment to naturally and efficiently handling special dietary requirements stands out, ensuring top-tier options for those following vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free diets. In the evenings, the experience transforms into an ŕ la carte dinner with a menu that is constantly renewed and accompanied by a carefully curated wine selection. In short, the service maintains an extremely high and consistent standard throughout the expedition.
Common Spaces
The outdoor decks offer excellent visibility for wildlife spotting, especially whales, allowing you to head outside quickly without missing any opportunities.
The Observation Lounge was one of my favourite spots: ideal for relaxing before excursions or dinner, with spectacular open views.
The expedition experience on the SH Minerva felt like an excellent combination of expertise and comfort.
The expedition team is of the highest calibre: both during Zodiac landings and the onboard lectures, their professionalism, knowledge, and closeness to the passengers are evident. Landing operations are very well-organised, creating an orderly and safe flow.
Access to the Zodiacs is agile and well-assisted. The system from the Basecamp / Mudroom works very well and facilitates the entire embarkation and disembarkation process without stress.
The included basic connection works very well for essential tasks such as emails and messaging (including WhatsApp).
The premium option is available for an additional fee and offers better performance, depending on the specific needs of each passenger.
The SH Minerva is an excellent choice for travellers looking to explore remote destinations without giving up the comfort of a high-level ship.
I would especially recommend it for:
• Those who value 5-star hotel-style comfort during polar expeditions.
• Travelers who want to balance adventure with rest and fine dining.
• People seeking an immersive experience in nature without sacrificing service or attention to detail.
In summary, it is a ship that achieves a very solid balance between understated luxury and a genuine expedition experience in a simply incomparable setting.
About the Author
In the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia, there are people who call themselves "nyc" (Nacidos y Criados - Born and Raised). Among these proud inhabitants is Daniela.
The stories of the Great White Desert did not begin in classrooms or in tourist brochures for Daniela. Instead, they resonated throughout her childhood, interwoven with family legends. Her grandfather, a brave member of the Argentine Navy in the 1950s, had set foot on the icy plains of Antarctica, bringing with him stories that ignited a flame of intrigue in young Daniela's heart. Her mother's chronicles, a devoted teacher and an enthusiastic tour guide, only added to this fascination. With each tale of the harsh, white wilderness and each description of its incomparable beauty, Daniela's desire to explore Antarctica grew.
Years passed, and while many cling to childhood dreams without ever realizing them, Daniela's fervor never wavered. Living in the bustling tourist city of Ushuaia, she found herself at the confluence of passion and profession. And eventually, the moment she had long awaited arrived: an opportunity to visit the place she had always dreamed of. Setting foot in Antarctica was not only the realization of a dream, but an experience that exceeded her wildest expectations.
For many, such an expedition would be the culmination of a lifelong ambition. But for Daniela, it was only the beginning. There was no turning back for her, not when her heart belonged to that wonderful, frozen world. Determined to close the gap between dreamers and the white continent, she dedicated herself to activities that brought her and others closer to Antarctica. By sharing her experiences, insights, and accounts, Daniela has become a beacon for those who yearn to touch the very soul of Earth's southernmost frontier.
