Argentina, one of the key gateways for travelling to Antarctica, is implementing new mandatory migratory requirements for all foreign travellers starting July 1, 2025.

The Important Part: Mandatory Documents to Present
These documents are mandatory and will be required at all points of entry to the country (airports, ports, etc.). Permanent residents and Argentine citizens are exempt.

1. Travel Assistance Insurance (Mandatory)
This is the most relevant change. You must present a valid health insurance policy that covers the entirety of your stay in Argentina.

Required Minimum Coverage:
• Medical and Emergency Assistance (for illness or accidents).
• Hospitalization.
• Medical Transport or Repatriation (for health reasons or death).

Polar Traveller Tip: Check that your insurance also covers key unexpected events for an expedition trip, such as flight cancellations or lost luggage.

2. Proof of Departure from the Country
You must show your return ticket to your country or the confirmed itinerary of your onward journey (e.g., the plane ticket or the cruise itinerary that takes you out of Argentine territory).

3. Accommodation Details
You must present a confirmed hotel reservation or the complete address of the place where you will be staying while in Argentina.
