The Sea Spirit is a premium expedition vessel designed to offer an intimate and personalised experience in the polar regions. From the very first moment, the team goes above and beyond to ensure passengers feel comfortable and enjoy every single second of the journey.
Its welcoming atmosphere truly conveys a "home away from home" feeling, something that is noticeable both in the crew's hospitality and throughout the ship's communal spaces.
Cabins and Comfort
One of the things that surprised me most was the size of the cabins. During my trip, I stayed in a triple cabin, and even with three people, we never felt short of space. The cabin featured a large wardrobe where we could comfortably store our luggage and all our clothes. Additionally, a curtain divides the room, providing extra privacy for each passenger. The soundproofing was also excellent; there was virtually no noise from the corridors or other cabins. The large window was undoubtedly one of my favourite spots. Often, simply looking out of the window was enough to encounter spectacular landscapes or even marine wildlife, without even leaving the room.
Gastronomy
The culinary offering was another highlight of the trip. Lunches were buffet-style, a very practical format that allowed us all to eat at leisure and be ready for the next expedition activity. Furthermore, the kitchen team presented a different theme each day: Italian, Mexican, Asian, and many other options that ensured meals were always varied. In the evening, dinners were ŕ la carte, featuring carefully prepared dishes. The galley team was always willing to cater to different dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.
Communal Spaces
The outer decks are spacious and offer excellent vantage points for spotting birds, whales, and other wildlife during navigation. The bow quickly became one of my favourite places to spend long periods enjoying the scenery. The main lounge is located nearby, allowing quick access outside whenever the expedition team announces a sighting. One of the details I liked most was that there were always staff members on deck with binoculars and spotting scopes, keen to spot any interesting wildlife or scenery to share with the passengers.
The Sea Spirit strikes an excellent balance between adventure and comfort. It is a ship designed for those who wish to experience a true polar expedition without compromising on comfort. The hotel team is always on hand to assist with any request, from providing a different pillow to answering any queries about life on board. The expedition team consists of highly experienced professionals: biologists, historians, ornithologists, and specialists in various fields who immensely enrich the experience.
During my trip, all lectures were conducted in English and German, as these were the official languages for that departure. After many landings, presentations were organised about the places visited, the wildlife observed, and there were also photography workshops to make the most of the images captured during the day. As it was a voyage with only 60 passengers, landings were highly efficient. Within minutes, everyone was enjoying terra firma, maximising our exploration time. Boarding the Zodiacs took place from a convenient marina platform located at the stern of the vessel, always with the assistance of the mariners and the expedition team, making the process safe and very well-organised.
The Sea Spirit offers internet connectivity via Starlink. Each passenger receives a complimentary 1 GB daily allowance for one device. The allowance resets automatically at midnight. The speed is sufficient for sending messages, checking emails, using social media, or sharing a few photographs of the trip. For those requiring greater connectivity, additional internet packages can be purchased during the voyage.
Having sailed aboard the Sea Spirit, I believe its greatest strength is the balance it achieves between an authentic polar expedition and a very high level of comfort. The intimate atmosphere, the excellent gastronomy, the spacious cabins, and, above all, the warmth of the team ensure that you feel looked after at all times.
I would especially recommend it to travellers seeking an expedition experience in smaller groups, excellent personalised service, and all the necessary amenities to fully enjoy some of the most remote places on the planet. If you value warm hospitality, a top-tier expedition team, and the opportunity to maximise your time exploring the polar regions without sacrificing comfort, the Sea Spirit is, without a doubt, an excellent choice.
