Description larga + Highlights
This light expedition offers a continuous exploration across the North Atlantic, tracing what is often described as the Viking islands. Sailing from Scotland toward increasingly remote shores, the journey ventures into Britain's most isolated island communities in the Shetland Islands, continues with a full three-day immersion in the Faroe Islands, and culminates among Iceland's volcanic outposts. Blending classic coastal sightseeing with carefully chosen expedition landings, the voyage reveals how culture forms in isolation and how small societies endure at the margins of this rarely visited ocean environment.

The natural world asserts itself along the route through towering cliffs, plunging waterfalls, complex sea cave systems, and dramatic volcanic formations. On board, the surrounding cold-water environment extends naturally into the culinary experience with locally sourced Faroese salmon. Guided by the expedition team, passengers will engage in geology-focused walks and Zodiac cruises along spectacular bird nesting sites. This journey masterfully balances comfort with genuine exploration, providing a complete narrative of the North Atlantic from its historic hubs to its untouched boundaries.

Highlights:
Visit Fair Isle to explore a remote community and learn the origins of its famous knitting patterns.
Spend three full days in the Faroe Islands, moving between the capital and traditional coastal villages.
Cruise by Zodiac through the narrow channels and concentrated sea cave systems of Papa Stour.
Discover the raw volcanic formations and black lava landscapes of the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago.
Observe dense populations of Arctic seabirds, including puffins and gannets, nesting along the cliffs.

Day 1: Edinburgh, Scotland (Embarkation)
Sailing from the historic capital
Your journey begins in Edinburgh, Scotland’s historic capital defined by medieval streets and open skylines. Settle into your cabin as the vessel departs in the afternoon. The urban landscape gradually recedes as the voyage toward the outer edges of the North Atlantic officially commences.

Day 2-3: Exploring the Shetland Islands
Migratory bird sites and sea caves
Focus on Shetland’s remote outer islands where natural systems dominate. Weather permitting, possibilities include landing on isolated Fair Isle, an important bird observation site; visiting Foula for a short geomorphological walk along sea cliffs; and exploring Papa Stour's concentrated sea cave systems via a scenic Zodiac cruise.

Day 4-6: Exploring the Faroe Islands
Fjords, dramatic ridges, and local culture
Spend three days exploring this wind-exposed archipelago. Possible locations include Tórshavn to view the Viking foundations of the old town; the small harbor village of Gøtuvík; and Vágar Island, home to steep ridgelines, waterfalls, and vertical cliffs. Enjoy locally sourced Faroese salmon on board after exploring Vágar, and ship cruise along the dense bird breeding areas of Vestmanna.

Day 7: Crossing the North Atlantic (At Sea)
Ocean navigation and expert presentations
Leave the Faroe Islands behind and set course for Iceland. A full day at sea offers time to observe the changing ocean from the open decks and attend insightful onboard talks. The expedition team will provide context on the natural environments and broader North Atlantic setting traversed.

Day 8: Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland
Volcanic activity and massive bird colonies
Arrive at the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago off Iceland's southern coast. Layered rock and black lava formations reveal a raw landscape shaped entirely by repeated volcanic events. Explore the island edges where geological forces intersect with dense early-summer seabird populations along the cliffs.

Day 9: Reykjavík, Iceland (Disembarkation)
Conclusion of the northern island voyage
We arrive in Reykjavík in the early morning, where the voyage concludes. The city’s open horizons provide a calm and fitting conclusion to the journey after days spent among remote islands. Disembarkation procedures take place following a final breakfast on board.
