This expedition offers a true immersion into Svalbard’s breathtaking wilderness in one unforgettable week. Sailing as close as possible to the northern pack ice, the preferred summer habitat of polar bears, we will explore pristine environments where reindeer and Arctic foxes prepare for winter. The journey blends iconic wildlife watching with the discovery of historical sites, from 16th-century whaling blubber ovens to modern scientific stations, allowing for a deep connection with the most untouched polar environment.

Aboard an ice-class vessel specifically built for these waters, you will traverse stunning fjords framed by dramatic mountains and towering glaciers. We will visit Earth’s northernmost settlement, Ny-Ålesund, and venture toward rocky islands almost barren of vegetation that host a rich variety of birdlife. Each day presents an opportunity to witness the secrets of one of the planet's most dynamic habitats, where the sea ice stretches toward the North Pole, creating a backdrop of unparalleled beauty and constant discovery.

Highlights:
Sailing along the edge of the Arctic pack ice in search of the polar bear.
Visit to Ny-Ålesund, the northernmost scientific research settlement on Earth.
Exploration of 16th-century historical whaling sites in Northwest Svalbard.
Sightings of diverse wildlife including walruses, whales, and millions of seabirds.
Cruising through the spectacular Kongsfjorden fjord system and its glaciers.

Day 1: All Aboard in Longyearbyen!
The start of the Arctic adventure
Arrive in Longyearbyen, Svalbard—the northernmost town on Earth. After being greeted by crisp polar air and dramatic mountain views, your ship awaits in the harbour; toast your departure from civilization as you sail into the Arctic wilderness.

Day 2: Northwest Svalbard
Whaling history and nature's recovery
Exploration of this region, a National Park since 1973, which preserves history from Dutch and English whalers. Haunted remnants like blubber ovens and graves are visible at sites like Smeerenburg, in an area now rich in Arctic flowers, walrus, and polar bears.

Day 3: Northeast Svalbard
Polar desert and vast glaciers
Entry into the icy wilderness of northeastern Svalbard, a stark polar desert where vast glaciers descend into ice-choked waters. Look for Arctic foxes prowling the shores and hundreds of thousands of seabirds nesting on cliffs above.

Day 4: North Svalbard
Towards the northernmost landmasses
Striving for the northernmost pieces of land on Earth, such as Nordaustlandet or Sjuøyane, located 1000 km further north than Norway’s Nordkapp. Weather permitting, we will walk upon these barren lands covered in moss and hardy tundra plants.

Day 5: Into the Ice
Navigating the Arctic pack ice
Cruising through the narrow ice channels of the pack ice stretching toward the North Pole. This dynamic habitat conceals abundant wildlife, from tiny fish and seabirds to belugas, bowhead whales, and the elusive polar bear.

Day 6: Kongsfjorden Area
Science and exploration frontiers
Sailing into the stunning Kongsfjord system, framed by glaciers and the Three Crowns mountains. Visit Ny-Ålesund, Earth’s northernmost settlement and historic base for legendary explorers like Amundsen and Nansen.

Day 7: Longyearbyen Disembarkation
Return to civilization
Final morning arrival back in Longyearbyen. After exploring the town and bidding farewell to the crew, transfer to Svalbard Airport for your flight back home with lifelong memories.

When traveling in extremely remote regions, your expedition staff must allow the sea, the ice and the weather to guide route and itinerary details.
