The North Spitsbergen cruise sails to some of the remotest locations of Northern Europe, exploring the magnificent main island of the Svalbard archipelago. The journey begins in Longyearbyen before venturing into deep fjords framed by looming glaciers, jagged peaks, and historic remains of 17th-century English and Dutch whaling stations. Sailing through pristine Arctic waterways such as Raudfjorden, Magdalenafjorden, and Liefdefjorden, travelers will marvel at monumental ice walls like Monaco Glacier and discover historic polar sites including Ny London and the renowned settlement of Ny-Ålesund.
This expedition offers an exceptional sanctuary for Arctic wildlife watching in its natural habitat. Daily Zodiac excursions and guided walks across the vast open tundra provide opportunities to spot grazing Svalbard reindeer, Arctic foxes prowling beneath seabird cliffs, massive colonies of little auks, and walruses hauled out along the beaches of Sarstangen. Furthermore, the surrounding waters and drifting ice floes create optimal conditions to search for ringed and bearded seals, beluga whales, minke whales, and the majestic polar bear.
Highlights:
Scenic cruising in front of the impressive 5-kilometer-long ice face of Monaco Glacier.
Visit to Ny-Ålesund, the world's northernmost permanently inhabited community and research hub.
Wildlife watching opportunities for polar bears, Svalbard reindeer, walruses, Arctic foxes, and belugas.
Zodiac exploration of towering seabird cliffs and 17th-century historic whaling and hunting ruins.

NOTE: Embracing the unexpected is part of the legacy—and excitement—of expedition travel. When traveling in extremely remote regions, your expedition staff must allow the sea, the ice and the weather to guide route and itinerary details. This itinerary is a tentative outline of what you’ll experience on this voyage; please be aware that no specific itinerary can be guaranteed.
