Not only we travel from one point to another and find our shelter on board the ship we chose. We also enjoy from incredible scenery, landscapes and interactions that only our noble vessel can provide.
Everyday the Bridge Team navigates the ship to position ourselves on the best posible spots, looking for unique opportunities.
Many times, this includes sainig through narrow passages, on the vicinity of glaciers or entering bays and fjords only approachable from the ship.

Shore excursions are the backbone of almost all itineraries, with most ships making landfall at least once every day once they reach their destination. The weather plays a huge role in your daily itinerary, although given the sheer array of fantastic landing sites all over there are plenty of options your Captain and Expedition Leader can choose from. On-shore excursions allow you to visit scientific research stations, communities, prominent wildlife colonies and take hikes to elevated viewing points for fantastic photography.

The photography workshops are composed of onboard lectures and practical activities led by dedicated expedition guide. Each session is meant to give you additional skills you can put into immediate practice out in nature.
You'll become more familiar with your own camera equipment while also learning best practices for taking pictures of moving wildlife and wide-open terrain in typical polar conditions, such as dim lighting and falling snow.
Zodiac cruising More info about this activity
On board the Zodiac you will discover a world of possibilities; accessing the most exclusive landing sites, cruising the coast in search of wildlife or simply enjoying a tour in the calm of the polar regions in search of marine wildlife or bird colonies.
The blue ice an its intimate presence is experienced at its best on zodiac tours.
It is not uncommon to meet curious seals, or humpback whales feeding.

On board your expedition vessell you will find a group of experts, naturalists, zodiac drivers and guides that that will translate the language of nature for you, telling you the stories of the places you are visiting, reviewing the historical, biological, ecological and geological aspects of your trips.

There’s important work being done every day, at some of the most renowned climate research facilities around the world, to record and study the incredible changes happening in remote places like Antarctica and th Arctic. As you might imagine, gathering critical on-site data on a regular basis would be a virtually impossible task for these groups. So we do it for them, in partnership with different research facilities.
If you’d like to get a first-hand look at how climate change is impacting our birds, sea life, glaciers, oceans, and weather patterns, and help scientists better understand our evolving planet, you’re welcome to join our Citizen Science program. Experience the vast wilderness and diversity of the Arctic on this thrilling voyage to four Arctic islands. We begin in Reykjavík, the ideal gateway to Iceland’s land of ice and fire, before crossing the Denmark Strait to East Greenland and into Scoresbysund – Earth’s largest fjord system. With immense glaciers, blooming tundra, and mountains rising straight out of the icy sea, it is one of the most spectacular locations anywhere in the Arctic. We also call at Ittoqqortoormiit, one of the most remote communities on Earth.
Afterward, we sail to Jan Mayen, an isolated island crowned by Mt Beerenberg, the world’s northernmost active volcano. Finally, we reach Svalbard, home to walrus, reindeer, puffins, and polar bears, where our voyage concludes in Longyearbyen, the northernmost town on Earth. From fjords and mountains to glaciers and tundra, this voyage offers an unprecedented experience through the most distant reaches of the polar environment.

Day 1: Embarkation – Reykjavik, Iceland
Gateway to Arctic adventure
Hallgrímskirkja Church towers over Reykjavik, a vibrant city known for Nordic cuisine, unique museums, and excellent shopping. Such a bustling capital will welcome you to your expeditions across the Arctic! Your expedition ship Ocean Albatros awaits you in the harbor; toast your departure from civilization as you sail into the Arctic wilderness, on course for adventure!
Day 2: At Sea, En Route to East Greenland
Crossing the Denmark Strait
Leaving Iceland astern, Ocean Albatros sets course across the Denmark Strait toward the wild coast of East Greenland. These productive waters, where currents from the Arctic mingle with the northern reaches of the Gulf Stream, are rich in seabirds and marine life, so keep watch from the deck for fulmars, whales, and the first drifting icebergs. Settle into life aboard as the Expedition Team begins its program of lectures, or simply relax in the spa, sauna, or panoramic hot tubs.
Day 3: Blosseville Coast
Volcanic landscape and Inuit heritage
The Ocean Albatros will sail south along Greenland’s Blosseville Coast, a rugged landscape shaped by volcanic activity around 50 million years ago. First surveyed by explorer Ejnar Mikkelsen, this area has long been navigated by the Inuit. If conditions allow, we may land in this now-uninhabited region of breathtaking beauty.
Day 4: Expedition Scoresbysund
Earth's largest fjord system
Venturing deep into the maze of fjords and islands that comprise Scoresbysund, it is easy to see why this region is spoken of with awe by even experienced explorers! The exact locations we visit in Scoresbysund will be dictated by Mother Nature – this far north, all human activity is subject to wind, sea, and ice conditions. Options include the Bjørne Islands, Cape Brewster, and abandoned European and Inuit settlements.
Day 5: Ittoqqortoormiit
Remote Arctic community
The only settlement in this region, Ittoqqortoormiit is among the most remote communities on Earth. While the establishment of the town by Danish authorities in 1925 was challenging, residents continue a subsistence hunting lifestyle. Ittoqqortoormiit hosts an excellent museum, a beautiful traditional church, and locals often welcome visitors wearing colourful traditional costumes.
Day 6: At Sea, En Route to Jan Mayen
Ocean sailing and shipboard life
From Scoresbysund, Ocean Albatros will sail on towards Jan Mayen. Cold currents drifting down from the Arctic Ocean mix with the last gasp of the Gulf Stream, creating vast biological productivity. During sea days, guests can enjoy fascinating lectures, indulgent spa treatments, or simply relax and watch seabirds from the ship’s hot tubs.
Day 7: Jan Mayen
Island of Beerenberg volcano
The active volcanic island of Jan Mayen is on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. This enigmatic and isolated island is the only active volcano in Norway, and the northernmost active volcano on Earth. Jan Mayen is inhabited by only around 18 people. The volcanic origin is visible all over with cinder cones, lava flows, and the peak of Beerenberg looming above.
Day 8-9: At Sea, En Route to Svalbard
Crossing the Greenland Sea
Leaving Jan Mayen astern, Ocean Albatros sets a northeasterly course across the Greenland Sea toward Svalbard. Join the Expedition Team for lectures on the wildlife and history ahead, take part in citizen science, or relax in the spa and panoramic hot tubs as the polar seascape drifts by and Svalbard’s snow-crowned peaks draw near.
Day 10: Expedition South Svalbard
Fertile fjords and bird cliffs
In Svalbard, our expedition enters the greener, warmer fjords of Bellsund and Hornsund, nourished by Atlantic currents. These fertile valleys support reindeer, Arctic foxes, nesting seabirds, and drifting icebergs. Highlights include Alkhjornet’s bird cliffs and the historic sites of Calypsobyen and Bamsebu.
Day 11: Expedition Northwest Spitzbergen
National park and whaling heritage
Northwest Svalbard, a National Park since 1973, preserves a rich history of early Arctic exploration and whaling. First visited by William Barents in 1596, the area became a hub for whalers, whose remnants, such as blubber ovens and graves at Smeerenburg, remain visible. Now heavily protected, the region is a pristine wilderness hosting Arctic flowers, seabirds, walrus, and polar bears.
Day 12: Kongsfjorden Area
Icy fjords and polar science
We sail past Prins Karls Forland to the stunning Kongsfjord, framed by glaciers and the dramatic Three Crowns mountains. Our next and last stop is Ny-Ålesund, Earth’s northernmost settlement, known for its scientific stations and historic role as a base for polar explorers like Amundsen and Nansen. Attend final lectures and celebrate at the Captain’s Farewell Cocktail Party.
Day 13: Disembarkation in Longyearbyen
Northernmost town on Earth
Arrive in Longyearbyen, Svalbard—the northernmost town on Earth. Upon arrival, you’re greeted by crisp polar air, dramatic mountain views, and a polar bear warning sign. After a hearty breakfast, it is time to bid a fond farewell to the Crew and Expedition Team, descending the gangway back to dry land with memories of a lifetime.

The standard Stateroom on Ocean Albatros is close to the Mudroom and has quick access to the Zodiac platforms for disembarkation during landings. This is very convenient if you have more limited mobility and would like a short distance to the Zodiacs. The State Rooms are perfect for those who wish a comfortable base during their stay onboard Ocean Albatros. The standard State Rooms all have a double bed or 2 single beds and a bathroom.
