The itinerary is a guide only and is subject to change due to weather and ice conditions. Your Captain and Expedition Leader will make the necessary adjustments to ensure the best possible experience.
This expedition combines the best of the Arctic seasons in the Svalbard Archipelago, utilizing the late-summer ice thaw to explore the remote eastern reaches of the region. As autumn approaches, the midnight sun brushes the horizon in a warm, low light that offers perfect conditions for photography. The voyage focuses entirely on maximizing the wild outdoor experience through a program integrating general cruising, active hikes led by expert naturalists and historians, and scenic Zodiac excursions. An agile and nimble expedition ship accommodating fifty passengers serves as a comfortable floating base camp, allowing access to narrow areas and secret anchorages often not possible with larger traditional cruise lines.
The exploration is enhanced by a private sea kayaking program in the Arctic Ocean, designed to paddle one to two times a day for two and a half to four hours, including at least one extended full-day outing. Passengers will enjoy walking on the snow-free summer tundra, exploring calm fjords bordered by mountain peaks rising from the sea and monumental glacier fronts like the 14th of July Glacier in Krossfjorden or the giant Bråsvellbreen glacier on Nordaustlandet, punctuated by hundreds of waterfalls. The journey covers a rich history of human exploration and polar survival, crossing main polar bear migration routes, walrus colonies, whales, Arctic foxes, and millions of seabirds nesting on the massive one-hundred-meter-high basalt towers of Alkafjellet.
Highlights:
Cruise on an agile fifty-passenger expedition vessel accessing remote and seldom-visited parts of Svalbard.
Explore pristine Arctic waterways and glacier fronts through an active sea kayaking and Zodiac program.
Encounter polar bears, walrus groups, whales, and millions of Brünnich's guillemots at Alkafjellet cliffs.
Hike across vast tundra landscapes and discover historical remnants of early North Pole expeditions.
Spend time in Longyearbyen, the world's northernmost town, under the unique midnight sun light.

NOTE: Embracing the unexpected is part of the legacy—and excitement—of expedition travel. When traveling in extremely remote regions, your expedition staff must allow the sea, the ice and the weather to guide route and itinerary details. This itinerary is a tentative outline of what you’ll experience on this voyage; please be aware that no specific itinerary can be guaranteed.
